James Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Just like to alert members about this one, which the seller claims has a Koa Isshin Mantetsu mei, yet refuses to show any evidence, saying that taking the handle off will destroy the tsuka-ito. I don't know what he's playing at as he seems to know at least the basics of Nihonto. Here's the link. Beware. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123 Quote
TomP Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Looks a little on the scary side to me. Quote
huntershooter Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Guess I wonder how he knows the signature to be "Koa Isshin Mantetsu..." without removing the tsuka??? Good trick, that. Quote
Brett Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Question: Are they 'mould' lines on the edges of the Tsuba, or am I seeing things? Or are they common in Gunto? And, the Kissaki looks really iffy to me. The Shinogi seems to ride up really far, and unless this has been ground in I am sus about this. It's a pretty poorly done fake, nonetheless. Thanks, -Brett Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Fake and 13 pos comments.... stay away! KM Quote
Brian Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 You guys better be sure when you make a definite "fake' call... Oneday you are going to get an out of polish Shin Gunto with over cleaned brass parts, and are going to make the mistake of being over confident. Caution is one thing, but outright and definite claims of fake are best kept for when there is no doubt. Just saying.... Brian Quote
Guest nickn Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 brian on this item there is no doubt i think most of us could spot an over cleaned gunto over this piece of rubbish the uk ,at least, is awash with them nick Quote

Brian Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Wasn't an opinion on this sword in particular...just a friendly caution for those inclinded to call fake. 99% of the time we are right, but then it is me who gets the nasty legal threats if we are wrong  All I am saying is be certain if you are making a definite call. kusunokimasahige Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 it is me who gets the nasty legal threats if we are wrong Well that should be a compliment because some people out there regard our opinion and knowledge on nihonto as decisive... KM Quote
