nagamaki - Franco Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 hi, a few quick snap shot images of newly polished ko gatana, something to share; boshi is kaen jitetsu, hada is masame with a hint of itame, habuchi Nobukuni Yoshimasa tsukuru Chikuzen (feel free to correct any error) Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Looks a good one Franco, thanks for sharing. Whish the pics were bigger to appreciate it even more. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Very nice indeed. I have a stupid question though. Is it possible to polish the side with etchings? I think I know that a person shouldn't, but never owned one. Thanks for sharing. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 hello gents, grazie for the kind comments, Carlo & Joe. I will try to post better images at some point down the road. Unless there is a valid reason for doing so, the back side should be left pretty much alone much like the nakago. That natural patina inside the hori can be appreciated just like it is. The only real concern would be active red rust appearing somewhere. Quote
Guest nickn Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 hello franco may i ask who polished your kogatana and at what cost nick Quote
loui Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 The other side usually isn't polished, but there is a process that should be done to that side to clean it up before the main polish is started. Regards. Louis Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 hello, nick, Takeo Seki in BC, Canada, performed this polish, please contact him directly for pricing and a quote. Contact me via PM for his contact information. Louis, the surface had definitely been carefully cleaned of dirt and grime. Quote
Ted Tenold Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Lovely piece Franco! This is the Chikuzen Nobukuni group, and the work certainly looks like it. The horimono style is a good trademark to them too. Congrats! Quote
Ted Tenold Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Franco, I don't know if you've seen this before. I posted it some months back in another thread, but thought it would be a good comparison for all to see with your kogatana. Kogatana (at least nice examples like yours) have been overlooked for far too long. Smiths made some stunning examples of their normal work in miniature. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted April 18, 2009 Author Report Posted April 18, 2009 Thank you, Ted, for the image and kind thoughts, there is just something about wonderful horimono on a good sword, ya never get tired of seeing it! Really sets that sword off nicely. My, now you're giving me second thoughts about the backside polish on a ko gatana, thanks for nothin' Quote
