Very nice indeed. I have a stupid question though. Is it possible to polish the side with etchings? I think I know that a person shouldn't, but never owned one. Thanks for sharing.

hello gents,

grazie for the kind comments, Carlo & Joe. I will try to post better images at some point down the road. Unless there is a valid reason for doing so, the back side should be left pretty much alone much like the nakago. That natural patina inside the hori can be appreciated just like it is. The only real concern would be active red rust appearing somewhere.

hello franco

may i ask who polished your kogatana and at what cost

The other side usually isn't polished, but there is a process that should be done to that side to clean it up before the main polish is started.

Regards.

Franco,

I don't know if you've seen this before. I posted it some months back in another thread, but thought it would be a good comparison for all to see with your kogatana. Kogatana (at least nice examples like yours) have been overlooked for far too long. Smiths made some stunning examples of their normal work in miniature.

Thank you, Ted, for the image and kind thoughts, there is just something about wonderful horimono on a good sword, ya never get tired of seeing it! Really sets that sword off nicely. My, now you're giving me second thoughts about the backside polish on a ko gatana, thanks for nothin' ;)
