Spartancrest Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 I noticed a few birds passing through this month. Two unusual ones a Miochin/Myochin [Nobuie] you have to imagine as a bird and one that must be a casting or how else to explain the raised kanji? 1 Quote
GRC Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 That's the first time I have seen the "overweight" version of the bird tsuba It would be pretty subtle once mounted on a sword and viewed from a "safe" distance by onlookers back in the day. Seems almost like an intentionally "hidden" motif. 6 Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 11, 2022 Author Report Posted June 11, 2022 Some other fat birds - at least the beak does not have to be imagined. A shy bird, a pretty plumage bird, a raven and a chidori. 3 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 10, 2023 Author Report Posted November 10, 2023 Late post but I thought this was interesting, not for it's quality of work but for the addition of a pretty poor rim. https://www.jauce.com/auction/b1112485459 Seen plenty of tsuba with removed rims and of course fukurin but not too many like this. Let's face it the rim looks like a bit of rebar, but I guess it up grades its size to use on a larger blade than the tanto I am sure it was first intended to serve. I note also the eye which is often cut all the way through the plate has been plugged. 4 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 13, 2023 Author Report Posted November 13, 2023 I think I have found what the rim of the tsuba above is made from ? - 3 Quote

Yes sure is https://www.jauce.com/auction/g1113707391 It reminded me of this thread - and this tsuba, you could inset almost any tsuba into the frame with only four points of attachment. 4 Quote

Well it looks like our old friend the backyard blacksmith has seen my bird in a frame and copied the design - https://www.jauce.com/auction/h1117986566 or https://buyee.jp/ite.../auction/h1117986566 And I thought mine was bad! 4 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 17, 2023 Report Posted December 17, 2023 Dale, I am always amazed how you are able to "unearth" items of interest! Wonderful, helpful, even hilarious at times! 2 2 Quote
