Adrian S Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 G'day all, Has anyone got the official dates for Dai Token Ichi 2009? Looking into a cheap airfare but need to pay before Friday. cheers, Adrian S Quote

benkyoka Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 I hope we can all get together again afterwards. Quote
Guido Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Soooo, who's going? I just bought my air tickets, and wonder whom I'll run into at the DTI? Quote
Ford Hallam Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Reckon you'll see me there again...I may even let you have a peek at our world famous film too Quote
Lee Bray Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Could somebody please fill me in on the details of this? It just so happens that my business partners wife wants to go to Japan , so myself and said business partner have reasoned that makes a perfect excuse to spend our spare company cash on a small holiday at the end of October. Talk about luck... I take it this is a must see? Quote
Markus Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I will be there too. Looking forward to see interesting stuff and - of course - you guys again Quote
Clive Sinclaire Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I had intended going and then to fly to NY for the Metropolitan Museum gig for a few beers. Now I hear what a motley crew is going to D T I , and not wishing to be led astray (again) I may have to change my schedule! Clive Quote
Lee Bray Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Apologies if my earlier questions weren't clear - Where is it? Do I need to book tickets and if so, how much? Will there be a shinsa? Quote
Guido Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Lee, it takes place at the Tokyo Bijutsu Club Bld., 6-19-15 Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The entrance fee for all three days (including a catalog) is Yen 1,500. No need to apply in advance. No Shinsa per se, but they have a "get your family treasure appraised" corner. It's basically a huge sales show - prepare for sensory overload! Quote
Lee Bray Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Thanks, Guido. I found a youtube video on the subject and it seems 'sensory overload' is an understatement. Looking forward to being there. Quote
Clive Sinclaire Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 There is a street map from JR Shimbashi and other details on Mishina Kenji's web site. Clive Sinclaire Quote
Brian Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 And I hate you all for not taking me with you! Yes, 2008 was probably one of the best they will ever have, but it is really something that every collector needs to do. Ok, that's just the social events. The DTI is pretty good too. Sad me and Nix won't be there. Brian Quote
Guido Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Some more detailed info for those who visit the DTI for the first time: I find it most convenient, easy and least time consuming to go to the DTI via Onarimon station on the Mita line (see attached map). Take exit # 4, make a 180 degree turn, walk a few steps to the big intersection and turn left there. After 100 or so meters (and passing a fire station on the left) you'll see the Red Cross building across the street on the right, and to your left the Tōkyō Bijutsu Club, just like in the attached picture with the DTI sign. Opening hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the first two days, and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the third day. The show is located on the 3'rd and 4'th floors, but registration is on the 4'th floor. If prices didn't increase, 1,500 Yen will buy you a 3 day pass including a nice catalog. For finding out what train and subway lines to use, and how long it takes and costs, there's a nifty tool: http://www.hyperdia.com/. Actually it's very helpful to find out any train connection within Japan - just click on "English" in the upper left corner and put in the station names without spaces. See you in two months! Quote
Lee Bray Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 That should come in useful. Thanks, Guido. Quote
Brian Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Damn, wish I had that info last year when we were there. Could have avoided walking around in circles for an hour, hailing a taxi, trying for 20 minutes to explain what a Dai Token Ichi is, and then catching a taxi a few blocks to the venue. Great info Guido...wish I was there. Brian Quote
Stephen Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 got a email for the catalog of the Dai Token Ichi 2009 from sanmei I dont mind the price of it but shipping doubles it, anyone have any ideas for getting a batch and shipping them to state side so i could send orders out here in the good ol USA? http://www.sanmei.com/shop_e/enter.html ... lang=en-us Quote
Guido Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 That won't make it much cheaper, Stephen, the most economical way is having one of the US collectors buying them and bringing them back in his suitcase. Some dealers like Andy Quirt and Fred Weisberg usually buy a few catalogs for North American customers, too, if I recall correctly. Quote
pcfarrar Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 http://www.sanmei.com/shop_e/enter.html ... lang=en-us Thanks for the link Stephen. I purchased a copy. "Witten in Japanese with English foreheads" thats some classic engrish  Quote
Stephen Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 That won't make it much cheaper, Stephen Yea your right, was thinking if someone wanted to do something like that id do the leg work for cost of shipping for all US members...just putting it out there. Quote
Goldy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 G'day all, Does anyone know if the DTI catalog is available for purchase on the net? Failing that, if anyone from down under is going would they be able to pick up a copy for me? Of course you would be fully reimbursed for the catalog, postage and inconvenience (I can't afford to pay for your travel and accomodation though...otherwise I'd be there myself!! ) Thanks, Quote
pcfarrar Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 My copy from Sanmei just arrived. Comes with a small separate book with english translations of the swords and fittings pictured. Well worth the price. Quote
Pete Klein Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 They are probably sold out as they no longer list the DTI catalog on the site. http://www.sanmei.com/shop_e/enter.html Quote
reinhard Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 A teaser (tanto by Yosozaemon-no-Jo SUKESADA and O-SA) accidentally taken from this year's catalogue for those still hesitating. May the God of copyright have mercy on me. I was told he is related to the God of promotion. reinhard Quote
