Robbin Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 ATTN moderators, apologies it seems I missed the "Military Swords of Japan" section! Possible to relocate this thread? Hi all, don't know too much about these, but thought you might enjoy another photo essay. Not likely a masterpiece but still a piece of history I reckon. I did replace the mekugi with one from a kit, the original was almost nonexistant, just a thin bent scrap that wasn't doing much. No markings or stamps anywhere that I could find. Some pics are before cleaning, some are after. And don't worry I did not clean the nakago and the file pictured was never near the blade (only used the file to shape the new mekugi a bit). Cheers me Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted May 30, 2022 Report Posted May 30, 2022 Nice gunto Lanegan! The fat seppa and silver over-lay habaki are signs of a custom upgrade for a Type 98. The owner spent a little more money on this than standard. Thanks for sharing! 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 The blade looks typical for Taisho/early Showa work, hard to tell for sure but looks non-traditional in some way. 2 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 31, 2022 Report Posted May 31, 2022 Lanegan, MEKUGI is the bamboo peg that secures the blade in the TSUKA. Do you refer to the clip? Quote
