ribendao Posted April 29, 2022 Report Posted April 29, 2022 Recently bought this online without seeing the nagako. To my surprise there was a signature on both sides. Would really appreciate a translation. Thanks Quote

george trotter Posted April 30, 2022 Report Posted April 30, 2022 Just for your interest Jonathan, here is an oshigata of a Shimada blade signed the same as yours (not dated). SUNSHIU SHIMADA JU MIKAWA NO KAMI SADASUKE. This one was in Type 98 Army mounts. I sold it about 1982. Regards... 3 Quote
ribendao Posted April 30, 2022 Author Report Posted April 30, 2022 Thanks George. These signatures are pretty consistent. When I bought this I was expecting a heavily osuriage mumei blade. Very surprised to find a signature. it’s a shame it’s in such rough shape. I can tell there is some nice hada beneath the rust. Quote
Surfson Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 It's nice to discover a signature, but on the flip side, the tang has been shaved down as well as shortened. It might otherwise be worthy of mei confirmation and restoration. Quote
