sisounek Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Hi Guys, thanks for all your help so far....... may be I am finally getting closer to own my first Japanese Steel!!!!!! I found this one and kind of hypnotized me, it looks so special, and the store is not for me to check it out in person! Could you please help me with few things: 1) what does it say on Shirasaya (sorry dont have better pic) 2) is Mei Gimei? to me looks pretty authentic Shinto sword 3) Has no papers and for $4000, I think it is a good deal or may be Steal :-) LoL ......or am I wrong again? 4) Hamon looks too good too me as well as a bit of too soft (worn off may be?) Again I appreciate your useful comments p.s. Sanshu Yoshida ju Fujiwara Kanefusa Saku (claimed to be signed Mei) Mike Quote
pcfarrar Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 One thing you can say is that its been acid polished. :? Aside from that its a nice looking sword. Quote
Amon Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Hamon looks like the ones on Paul Chens swords and like Peter just wrote so are they acid etched. Regards Quote

pcfarrar Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 My brother has a nice NTHK papered Tango no Kami Kanemichi katana for sale. You could try emailing him, I think he wants around $3000 for it. It has a great hamon with loads of activity. His email is farrar.mark@googlemail.com Quote
Ted Tenold Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Mark, Your enthusiasm is admirable as is your prudence in asking about things before rushing in. Let me also offer this to you: http://www.nbthk-ab.org/articles/Gentle-Advice.pdf Take your time, or as I was once told...."make haste, slowly". Quote
loui Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Good advice Ted. Also, if you have a $4000.00 budget, then I suggest spending a sizable percentage of that on reference books. Most sword collectors have a great deal of money (in books) sitting on a shelf very near to their swords. Louis Quote
