Nambokucho Jidai ( 1336-1392 ) O Kissaki typical of this period

57.8 cm NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon attribution to Kaga Sanekage who worked around 1362-68
Sanekage was a student of Shodai  Etchu Norishige ( student of Masamune ) 

Sanekage works are rated Ryo-Wazamono ( very good cutting ability )

Gary, thanks for posting. Could you please post some closer photos of the hada / hamon? It will be interesting to see the chikei and jinie. Tametsugu and Sanekage are the close followers of Norishige and probably there are strong traits unifying their workmanship.

if you look for NAGINATA NAOSHI (not naoishi), perhaps you might find one. I was lucky enough to buy a nice one here on the NMB!

Is it still considered to be an O Kissaki even without the presence of a yokote line? Isn't the yokote line what defines the kissaki? Or am I just not seeing the yokote line in this image?

Dear Franco.

 

I think perhaps the yokote is at the point where both the ha and the shogi change direction, most visible in the first photograph.  You are right, the usual clearly defined line is not evident in the photographs but the change in angle is there.
