Shugyosha Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 Hi Nick, the attribution will be on the other side of the paper. Quote
nickm Posted March 17, 2022 Author Report Posted March 17, 2022 I apologize. I can't seem to figure out how to make the orientation correct Quote
nickm Posted March 18, 2022 Author Report Posted March 18, 2022 I appreciate it. A shame there is no generation attribution. To assume take the era and Smith to figure it out? If so assume 2nd generation? Quote
Peter Bleed Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I think the paper says, "Den Bizen Osafune Tadamitsu" so it is in the style of a Bizen smith ... like ...Tadamitsu. This seems like a general assessment for a blade that is hardly "Bad" but also hardly remarkable. There were armies that needed arms at that point... Peter 2 Quote
Peter Bleed Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 The fact that they did NOT say "SUKESADA" suggests that this blade is better than a mass produced, kazu-uchi mono. P 3 Quote
DTM72 Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Since they are saying Around Eishō. 永正 your smith may be... https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TAD129 or this guy https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TAD136 or if you are lucky, it is... https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TAD133 Blade has to be judged on its own merits. Simple hamon with everyday itame hada with little to no activity in the jihada or is it a WOW when you see the hamon and the hada? That would be the simple difference between the two smiths and the third smith above. Post good quality pics and some of the great people of this board may be able to help you figure where your smith falls...then again, it is still a big list of Bizen Tadamitsu's https://nihontoclub.com/view/smiths/list?id_op=%3D&id=&name_op=starts&name=tadamitsu&kanji_op=%3D&kanji=&province=52&start_era=All&school_nid=All Quote
nickm Posted March 21, 2022 Author Report Posted March 21, 2022 Bunch of pics of the blade. I was considering selling it but can't bring myself to do it especially in the current climate.. just love it Quote
