Kolekt-To Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Just saw this listed on eBay - here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125183574489?hash=item1d2585c1d9:g:iUcAAOSwO9xiI07z This doesn't look right and the seller is asking $2000.00. I immediately recognized several red flags. What do you guys think? What do you see wrong here? Quote
WillFalstaff Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Here’s my try at what’s suspicious (still learning 98s): The obvious newly and poorly wrapped handle. The shape of the handle. The very noticeable pattern on the blade makes it likely a Chinese manufacture. The habaki is disgusting. The scabbard throat is very poor. Probably a franken-sword made with authentic as well as fake parts. 1 Quote
paul griff Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Hello Geoff, As Chris pointed out it’s a fake...100%...all of it is fake ! Regards, Paul.. 3 Quote
Kolekt-To Posted March 5, 2022 Author Report Posted March 5, 2022 The immediate red flags for me were the Tsuka wrap, the blade's shape, and the Habaki. Upon closer inspection, I noticed more flaws as Will and Chris have noted. The seller needs to get educated and adjust his price accordingly - or salvage the authentic parts and sell those individually. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Nothing authentic here. Technically this is trying to be a Type 94. 1 Quote

I was so focused on the immediate red flags that I forgot to take note of the saya's double haikan which would be indicative of a Type 94. At any rate, this thing is a big nothing burger! Quote
