Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 I must plead my ignorance to tsuba but I have one that to my untrained eye looks attractive. just wondering if it is genuine? 1 Quote
Dan tsuba Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Hello Tony !! I really like your tsuba ! So, I am realitvely new to tsuba collecting (only about 3 years into it). But on another thread on the forum we have talked about cast tsuba. Now I am not sure, but from what was discussed on that thread, this looks to me like it could be cast. I don't know, just saying in my opinion. Maybe others can tell you more about it. With respect, Dan 1 Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 I've tried to identify casting pits or seams. I was checking to see if the copper had been painted on but thought I'd ask here as I'll never be sure on my uneducated answer to my own question if I don't. Quote
Dan tsuba Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Hello again ! Great pictures and I am certain you will get the answers you seek. Just wanted to let you know (as found out on the other thread) that just because this tsuba may be cast, it does not necessarily mean that it is not genuine. It could have been made in the Edo period after 1840. Just again, my opinion !! With respect, Dan Quote
vajo Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Nice tsuba. The decoration was later added. 2 Quote
Geraint Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Dear Tony. Not cast, perfectly OK. Though someone was a little unkind to the nakago ana on the back. Do my eyes deceive or are there two colours of gold on the foliage? All the best. 1 Quote

Expand It's hard to tell if the gold colours are two separate colours or the gold is worn. 1 Quote
MauroP Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 In my opinion it looks a perfectly legit tsuba, possibly Aizu-Shõami, maybe with a partially worn out gilding of the inlays. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 To my eyes, there are indeed two gold tones, or one might even be silver. Nice TSUBA and KASHIRA, and of course not cast. 1 Quote
