Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Which of these are we interested in first. Quote
Brian Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Top one will almost always be Showato. Let's see the bottom one 1 Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Ishizuki is gone Looks to have been rewrapped at some point but the wrap looks to have age. Nice release button. The sarute is non decorative. There's a small hole on the kabutogane. From a missing Mon? Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Interesting. The other side seems to have a different menuki. Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Heavy pitting on the blade. Hard to photo the hamon. Struggling but looks like a horsetooth hamon. Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 The blade is quite scratched up so photos are hard but looks like choji now Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 If people want I can take measurements. Sori etc. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Looks like "Higo No Kami Kuniyasu". Related to Kawachi No Kami Kunisuke, the glimpse of Hamon looks like their special Choji. 2 1 Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Well I'll move onto the next one for now but still revisit anything anyone wants too see or know about this one Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Typical type 3 fittings. Heavy Metal saya with dust guard throat. Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 A touch of staining around the end of the blade. The hamon is bright and clear. No damage I can see. A few scratches 1 Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 8th month of the 19th year of showa Quote
Stephen Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Latter is Kanemitsu. Any stamps? Nice hamon. The first would be wow in polish. 1 Quote
Lareon Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 The tinyest star stamp I've ever seen 1 Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 That is unexpected to see a star stamp Gendaito in those mounts. As Brian mentioned, 95% of the time they are lower grade Showato. 1 Quote
Kaz S Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I love these threads so much 1 2 Quote

Yet, you'll notice it does have the double release buttons. So, a mid-range quality fittings. Also, @Kiipu, a 3rd Kanemitsu with horizontally stamped numbers. I have: 1944 "24" 1944, Mar "118" NoDate "247" All three horizontally stamped and all 3 RS blades. 118 is from Slough, so no fittings shown, just he double ana. 24 is owned by Tim Blackbourne and is in identical fittings: 2 2 Quote

This places production after 118 and 247. The serial number is actually three digits long. The second tang hole went right through the middle digit and all that remains is 2X4. And that means it was stamped prior to fitting. If the fitting shop put those numbers there it would be illogical that they would put a hole right through they’re own fitting numbers. I think these are army numbers. Or contract numbers. 1 Quote
Kiipu Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 @Lareon Does the 尾州住竹内兼光 marked blade have any markings on the nakago mune? Quote
Lareon Posted February 20, 2022 Author Report Posted February 20, 2022 I had a look when I was taking photos and didnt see any. I'll go grab it and check Quote
Lareon Posted February 20, 2022 Author Report Posted February 20, 2022 Nah nothing. Just 3 little circular indents. No markings on this one 1 Quote
