Both well done sir Quote
Butch Posted February 17, 2022 Author Report Posted February 17, 2022 I now I was lucky to find them .. Any information regarding the smith who made this blade would be a great help ? Thanks Gareth Quote
Stephen Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 Gareth Id ask for translation in the translation forum. That type of kanji is difficult for me. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 Date looks like 1940. Can't read the smith name. As to the gendaito question, I don't see the telltale black dots or egdes in the hamon that are signs of oil quenching, so it might be gendaito. But I'm the worst one to even comment on that stuff! Butch Posted February 17, 2022 Author Report Posted February 17, 2022 Thanks Bruce just put the details on the translation forum looks like he is rated as a 1 million yen rated smith . Thanks Gareth Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 Yes, just saw that too. As Ray said, the year is 1943. Quote
Butch Posted February 17, 2022 Author Report Posted February 17, 2022 Yes the smiths name who made the sword was Tomita Sukehiro Gareth Quote
Brian Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 There is no way a sword with that hamon and signed that well is going to be Showato. Hamon is obviously traditionally done. Quote
paulatim Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 You have very good taste Gareth :-) Congratulations, again! Paul Quote
reeder Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 Sukehiro was a good smith. Definitely gendai. Part of the Kato group. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 17, 2022 Report Posted February 17, 2022 Very jealous Gareth, did you have any provenance attached to this one? Quote
Butch Posted February 18, 2022 Author Report Posted February 18, 2022 No all I know it came from the same collection as the previous one I posted ... And the former owner had been collecting for at least sixty years .. Quote
BANGBANGSAN Posted February 18, 2022 Report Posted February 18, 2022 The date is :皇紀二千六百三年仲冬 1943 December 仲冬=中冬(Mid-winter), the second month of winter that year. The 冬至 winter started on November 8th in 1943. 1 Quote
Butch Posted February 18, 2022 Author Report Posted February 18, 2022 Some more information on the Smith plus a picture of him. Thanks Gareth 1 Quote
