Leroy Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k35709694 I was browsing the Yahpp JP auctions (just looking-cannot read nihon-go!) and came across these HUGE menuki. They look like decent quality. can someone explain the purpose of the size, and what they might have been used for (assuming they are true tosogu). Please bare with me...my knowlege of fittings is next to none Thanks a bunch -Lerroy Quote
Ron S Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 They are huge! I saw a pic of some dragon menuki on a HUGE O Dachi that were about 75mm long perhaps they have a similar application. Quote
Brian Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Yes..those are very interesting, and I agree that the quality does look very good. Certainly must be for a dedication blade, and not a normal sword intended for use? I wonder like Ron if they are intended for O-dachi as discussed currently in the General section? Anyone able to read the auction and give us a summary? Brian Quote
Nobody Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 summary of explanation; headding; a good Menuki of 10 cm, big Ho-o (鳳凰), box with description. material; shakudo, gold. size; 10cm x 2.8cm x 0.7cm mass; about 51g, 38g (?) description on the box; 平安住人金......cannot read after that. The remains are cheap sales talks without much importance. Quote
