Nice example, but no measurements and the photos do not do it justice. Impossible to judge only from those.
Missing its pan cover hinge pin. (Definitely worth more than they are suggesting.)

Forgot to mention that it looks to be pre mid-1800s at least. If there’s a Mei signature under the barrel that could give us more information.

There’s a story quoted in Jan’s Yonezawa book of how the 進駐軍 Shinchūgun or occupying forces after WWII came around the towns and villages confiscating weapons of all sorts.

In Yonezawa some quick-thinking souls used the barrels to make fence posts, and in this way many old examples were saved.

Thanks Thomas, there is a rain dragon tsuba in that collection that brings me up to 102 of those! I will have to have a look at the museum's site for a clearer image.

The various guns look nice but hard to see from those museum angles. 

 

The little one on the other hand is... how can I put it politely? ... made more recently, in order to look old and funky(?)

Some more eyecandy for Piers.  However, the lack of an overall picture of the matchlock is disappointing.  This one got registered in 1872.

State of the photographic art in 2010! Yes, like looking through a glass darkly, and with none of the promised follow-up photos. The gun looks good and solid from what we can see. No mekugi-ana surrounds is not a problem. Thanks! 

 

(Member 'Trenchwarfare' has an example there of a Satsuma gun on his rack that I'd like to see close up.)
