Soshin Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Just wanted to share an update about my Kanemoto Katana that posted about previously here. I wanted to get the sword check out by a professional Japanese sword polisher before sending it to shinsa. Likely now the shinsa for this sword will be sometime next year in 2023. The professional Japanese sword polisher suggested a complete (finish polish) shiage due the amount of rust on the back of the blade (mune 棟). Here are some photos from me and the polisher showing what I am talking about. Feel free to politely to discuss. Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Looked at the previous thread too, looks like very nice sword with regular sanbonsugi. That rust on the mune is unfortunate as apart from that it seems to be quite well preserved. 1 Quote
SteveM Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 I couldn't tell from the other thread, did the fold-over leave a loop at the end of the blade like this one? (I don't think this is a deal-maker or deal-breaker in any case...just another data point to consider.) 1 Quote
Soshin Posted January 29, 2022 Author Report Posted January 29, 2022 Hi Steve M., In answer to your question not really sure and looking back at all the photos I do have only this one photograph that might show a loop at the end of the tang (nakago 中心). The sword is still with the professional Japanese sword polisher so additional photographs are not possible at this time. 1 Quote
Brian Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Great looking sword, seems worthy of the work. 2 Quote
