CoastieMike Posted January 28, 2022 Report Posted January 28, 2022 Hello all, I have a late Edo period iron tsuba with gold inlay and want to preserve the patina. I was not sure if I should leave it alone or use choji oil from time to time as I do my blade. I read previous discussions here mentioning cleaning but no mention of oiling. Thank you. -Mike Quote
mas4t0 Posted January 28, 2022 Report Posted January 28, 2022 No need to oil a tsuba, just be sure to store it properly; a kiribako is best. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 28, 2022 Report Posted January 28, 2022 Lightly rubbing the iron ground with a soft cotton cloth is generally all that is recommended, assuming that your tsuba is stable and red rust-free. Avoid rubbing the inlay itself though, if you can. Quote
