Shortened "chisai" katana sword

Hi everyone,

 

I'm trying to find out some more information about this sword. From what I've gathered so far it seems to be a shortened "chisai" katana. I've edited a few previously taken photos for you to examine. The habaki seems to be too narrow to be that of a katana though. Blade edge is approximately between 21-22 inches (53-56 cm) in length. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

The blade is very straight. I am not sure as to why that is.

I have several blades that are as straight as yours. It could be a school trait or just personal preference for whomever it was made for IMHO.

Could also have been used for a shikomizue (cane stick sword).  I have seen a quite reasonable one or two such blades in interesting mounts.

No dated but Shinto and signed. Will try to get some parallel photos when I get a chance

Here is a blade in a cane stick/walking stick koshirae I saw on ebay in November 2009.  It has a quite straight blade.

in your research, please try CHIISA-GATANA. In your blade, the HABAKI seems to fit fine, as far as the photos allow a comment. As the blade seems to have been shortened, it was perhaps a KATANA before. Better photos and exact dimensions would help to find out.

And PLEASE! Never put a sword blade on a hard surface!
