SteveM Posted January 24, 2022 Report Posted January 24, 2022 The entry in the catalogue says 大和高田 吉川家伝来 From the Kikkawa/Yoshikawa family, of Yamato Takada The name printed in the catalogue is 吉川, which can be pronounced as Kikkawa, or Yoshikawa, depending upon which family this refers to. In any case, this is the family name. Yamato Takada refers to a location, situated in what is today Nara Prefecture. The location should give us a very good clue as to how the name is pronounced (and which family this refers to). 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 24, 2022 Report Posted January 24, 2022 According to the label in Simon's link, this armour was owned by 吉川弘明 at time of original sale. Notice that the word 桶川 (胴)Okegawa has been crossed out on the label, as if it was a mistake. It is true that in general kamon and maedate can be added at any time, but since this Kamon is so unusual, I feel that in this case those on the fukikaeshi and that on the maedate are quite likely original to the kabuto. 1 Quote
LuckyLuudje Posted January 30, 2022 Author Report Posted January 30, 2022 Tanks all for your help. And I have a lot of research to do. I finally had time to make some more pictures. It would be interesting to find out how old the Kabuto actually is. I hope the pictures are good enough Quote
Shogun8 Posted January 30, 2022 Report Posted January 30, 2022 Somewhat skimpy proof perhaps, but the fit of the tsunamoto of the maedate with the receiving haraidate lends credence to the theory that the maedate and kamon on the fukigaeshi are original to this kabuto. Quote
