itsoverthere Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hi all, I hope I'm not confused by something that should be obvious here but I'm wondering about this mei. I'm told it says Sukesada but it doesn't look so good to me - am I missing something? Can anyone tell more definately what it says? If so might it offer any indication of age? I would have thought that the yasurime and the nakago edges would rule out great age but again I could be wrong. Quote
Mark Green Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hey Adam, In your pic, it is very hard to make out the last few kanji. Got a better one? Mark Quote
Stephen Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 tried my best still cant see bottom kanji better eyes may Quote
itsoverthere Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hi guys, Sorry, I should have seen that coming. Here's a better pic. Quote
Mark Green Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Yup, I would say that is kinda a mess. I don't see Sukesada. Well then again, I guess it could be, It doesn't look very nice though. can you pic the whole sword? Here is my (kawana) Sukesada. See how pretty. Quote
itsoverthere Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hi Mark, Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. I've seen papered Sukesada's and I gotta say the signatures didn't look like the one I posted above. The blade itself looks fairly nice (see below) but I would describe the mei as a little sketchy. Mark Green Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Yes, very nice. Is it a wakizaski? If you get a chance, some very close pics of the hamon activity, and the hada would be great, and would help those that know, to judge your sword better. Kinda like this or closer. And a WHOLE pic would be great too. Have fun, Mark Quote
Jean Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 The mei is remakably crisp compared to the nakago. Now it is not a great signature, no added value. Quote
itsoverthere Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 Hi, Here's a couple of hada pics for people to look at. It looks quite good to me. It may be worth mentioning that an attempt has also been made to write a date, in the same messy style as the signature. As Jean has pointed out, such a thing is unlikely to have added any value to the piece which once again raises the question of why. Quote
