For our translators, even though most of it was fairly easy to read. This is what I got so far :

Nabeshima ???

Naginata signed Hizen Kuni Ju Omi Daijo Tadahiro

Hideshima Ie ( maybe a branch of the Nabeshima clan? )

??? ( the rest exceeds my current skill level )

Best Regards

Hi Dominic,

Maybe: “bestowed by an official of the Nabeshima” then naginata etc. Then in the next photo “writing from (written on) original shirasaya.

鍋島公拝領薙刀銘肥前国住近江大掾忠廣 – A naginata signed Hizen no kuni ju Omi-daijo Tadahiro, which was received from the Load Nabeshima

秀嶋家 – Hideshima family

元白鞘書有 – The writing was on the previous shirasaya.

Thank you very much John. I am assuming this isn't the original shirasaya but rather a recap of an old sayagaki?  I can imagine that "bestowed by an official of the nabeshima" is possibly true. The saya is decorated with a variation of the nabeshima kamon (myoga ( maybe the mentioned hideshima variant?)) For sure is that hizen was the place of action. Definitely had to be some time after the shimabara rebellion, since tadahiro received the omi daijo title in 1641.  Will do further researching into the nabeshima clan.

Best regards

Thank you very much Moriyama-san! Of course John. I just took some quick shots. Will do some better ones, once I find the time. Hopefully there are some details to see. In hand it is much more magnificent. A beautiful nie deki suguha based blade with some ashi and typical konuka hada.20220111_161515.thumb.jpg.d11264d39dc8c0f185857d9b14ad6de5.jpg20211231_113335.thumb.jpg.efb7252e3aaa10f8c5f4f6fe17879413.jpg20211230_125423.thumb.jpg.9be029f44e642bfc8cca6219d0d1ce8f.jpg20211230_125430.thumb.jpg.dffa90be11b291f444110609dcf381bd.jpg

The kamon of Nabeshima is 杏葉紋 (Gyoyo-mon). Although it looks line Myoga-mon, they are clearly different crests.

Thank you again Moriyama-san. I agree they share some similarities at first sight, but on closer inspection they are clearly different.

Best regards
