pcfarrar Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Hi, Could anyone help me with this hanging scroll. I am wondering what is the significance of the design, and any help with the signature would be most appreciated. Thanks, Peter Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Good Evening Peter, I've seen something like this before, I think it may relate to the Yasakami no Magatama, one of the three sacred emblems of Japan. Check out Tesshu Yamaoka's Calligraphy, I think he may have depicted a similar subject. Cheers Malcolm Quote
pcfarrar Posted February 28, 2009 Author Report Posted February 28, 2009 Hi Malcolm, One thing I did wonder if it was the Buddhist circle of life? Thanks, Peter Quote
Nobody Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I suspect that it is a kind of Enso (円相). Ref. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ens%C5%8D Quote
k morita Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Hi, Not Enso円相. Painting is "Nyoihoju" 如意宝珠. http://darumamuseumgallery.blogspot.com ... annon.html Thanks Quote
Nobody Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Ah yes, Morita san. I found a calligraphy of Hoju by Inoue Kanshu (井上寒甃). Quote
pcfarrar Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks for your help. Any idea on the signature or the date of the painting Quote
Nobody Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I cannot read all characters. Correct me if I am wrong. The 1st line: 六十一歳 – 61 years old The 2nd line: Something + 荘 – artist’s name The 1st seal: 中澤 ? 南 – Nakazawa ?-nan The 2nd seal: Maybe the same as the artist’s name Quote
