drb 1643 Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 Here’s a recent pickup that I couldn’t resist. It’s in desperate need of a polish, but you can still appreciate the beauty of this sword. It looks like clouds billowing down the shinogi. I’ll attach more pictures in a follow up. Please let me know what you all think. Thank you, Tom 1 Quote
Shuriken Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 I like the unusual shape of the habaki. Great sword! Quote
Kiipu Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 So what swordsmith is it, Fujiwara Fuyuhiro 藤原冬廣 or Fujiwara Hisahiro 藤原久廣? The second to last character looks like 久 but I do kinda see 冬 as well. @BANGBANGSAN @SteveM Quote

Grey Doffin Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 Maybe Unshu Ju Fujiwara Fuyuhiro. This isn't Gunto; it is a significantly earlier sword. Grey 2 Quote
Smee78 Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 So a family blade in military mounts? Either way I like it, looks to be in great condition. Quote
Michaelr Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 Nice one Tom. Congratulations. I would like to see that one in person. Happy New Year MikeR Quote

I think you are correct. The characters then are as below. 雲州住藤原冬廣 = Unshū Jū Fujiwara Fuyuhiro. 雲州 = Izumo Province 2 Quote

Hi Kiipu, the machi is actually level, it’s just distorted in the picture. I have attached another picture to show this. It’s definitely an unusual habaki. Yes Mike, I’ll bring it next time we meet up. Tom 1 Quote
