What's odd about this wakizashi? (Pics)

• Something seems off about the mekugi-ana; not visible on one side of tsuka.
• "Hamon" seems reversed on one side of blade.
• Sarute at kashira clearly wrong.

 

I have no photos of the nakago.

 

Saya might be legit.

Paper tag on hanger...?

 

Maybe a modern repro in wartime saya?

Looks like an end of war blade hastily pressed into service, pictures of the nakago will be telling. The quality of the blade looks decent from first glance though.

Hamon resembles classic later generation Kanemoto Sanbonsugi. Agree with Chris, hastily pressed into service. Looks like an NCO tassel attached to the Saya so a private sword.

The blade, saya and mounts look authentic to me as well but that NCO leather knot looks to be in VERY good condition if its original?
