The John Plimpton Collection: 3rd Batch Offered for Sale

Thanks everyone for their continued support and interest so far with the Plimpton collection. I want to share another batch with the forum.

19.    Rare Type 8 Cavalry Sword – a very rare and early cavalry saber, based on German designs, probably made in Germany, with a plated scabbard (see also Dawson’s Swords of Imperial Japan, pgs. 26-27) - $2,000. 23.    Imperial Family Court Sword – a type 19 court sword made very special by the placements of chrysanthemums on the guard, scabbard, and stud indicating it belonged to a member of the imperial family - $5,000. 26.    Type 41 Courts Martial Clerk Sword – at first glance, it looks like a very plain court sword, but the lack of adornment on the furniture highlights this is another rare specimen, a court sword for marshall court clerks. Dawson’s Swords of Imperial Japan contains a more detailed description, and interestingly this is the sword published in that book - $1,500.
