Lareon Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Would love to see examples of members Tachi Kake. I've been keeping an eye out for one that takes my fancy but they don't come up too often. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 See quite a few of them in my travels, Tony. (Was offered one just the other day which I refused.) What exactly do you envision? Quote
Lareon Posted December 6, 2021 Author Report Posted December 6, 2021 No idea really, I think it's one of those things that once I see it I'll know if I want it One of the reasons i wanted to see other people's or even ones that people really enjoy. not a tachi kake but i love this on the tachi kake front i'm really not sure, i like quite simple and elegant. I don't know if one exists but the saya i would like to match it to has split grass stems under the lacquer. something with a similar motif would be nice 3 Quote
Lareon Posted December 6, 2021 Author Report Posted December 6, 2021 All in all would just love to see examples that other people own Quote
vajo Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 I would not rest a sword in a tachi kake. Better is to store it on a normal kake if you want to present the sword. Quote

Hi Chris, I store all my swords in sword bags in the dark and don't usually display them at all (except a single Gunto I have in my library) but would like to own an authentic Tachi Kake that I like the look of at some point. I'm more interested in seeing the variety that other members have Quote
vajo Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 No problem Tony. Its only my opinion. 1 Quote

ken kata Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Hello Tony, I made this Tachi Sword Stand out of some pieces of wood I had.. I converted the Bedroom Closet to a "Tokonoma" (Alcove) ... 4 Quote
Lareon Posted December 6, 2021 Author Report Posted December 6, 2021 ah that's a nice display, interesting to make a Tokonoma. I have a small room in my library that i store them in but they're all in bags inside cases. Never got round to making them look nice, it's a fine line between what I want and what the wife says will happen :D 1 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 The prices on these have skyrocketed recently, would be interesting to see how much they really sell for in Japan. One day it would be nice to have a good Makie example (and a fine Tachi to match). 1 Quote
DTM72 Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 I have a couple that are made of bamboo. Not the most fancy thing, but I like it. 1 Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 Kamakura is famous for a style of carving and lacquer work; Kamakura-bori - when I lived there this was in the window of a local shop specializing in Kamakura-bori ware. I used to pass by about once a month and try to buy it but the owner said it was there for advertising and not for sale - he said I couldn't afford to have him carve another... 3 1 Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 Heres one still banging around the house - the "cup" for the Kabuto-gane is lined in rawhide 2 Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 This other one I think is maybe Taisho period, the "cups" are silver - sadly I have no Tachi to display with these... 6 4 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 The last one with the three 'branches' is really fantastic. Do you use it? Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 John - If you look at the first photo of that piece you'll see where we use it at club meetings - sadly no Tachi koshirae in my collection... -t Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 Very nice, can see it being useful for meetings. Well, this is a case where the Kake really warrant some good Tachi, and not the other way around! 2 Quote
Lareon Posted December 9, 2021 Author Report Posted December 9, 2021 Very nice, simple and elegant, the three tiers is interesting, I've not seen that before. Quote
DTM72 Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 I plan on building one like this, using curved bamboo as the tail. 4 2 Quote

Never knew tachi kake came in such a variety of forms! An attention-getting companion piece to the standard deer-antler katana kake might be a tachi kake made by articulating a deer spinal column, using the pelvis as the base, with its natural “cup” to hold the kashira… 1 Quote
