kyushukairu Posted December 5, 2021 Report Posted December 5, 2021 A lovely, large, katana-sized (80 x 75mm) jingo tsuba. The theme seems to be paulownia, done in an abstract way, as is typical of Higo work. There are a couple of lovely features which show that this was made by a talented metal-worker. Firstly, the vines of the paulownia look to be achieved by carving into the plate to reveal the design. Secondly, the mimi gives the impression of being a separate piece of iron, but it is all one piece. A faint silver zig-zag pattern can also be seen around the mimi, which is seen in Jingo work.
