Kazunori (一則), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – „Kazunori“ (一則), civilian name „Kanematsu Kazuichi“ (兼松一市), born June 10th 1894, he worked as guntō smith and died December 9th 1944, posthumous Buddhist name „Zendō Myōtoku“ (善導妙徳)

Question, and maybe I need to start a new post, is there a good resource to read on determining between traditionally made and non-traditionally made blades around the war?

Hi Chris, there are numerous threads on just that, try searching "Gendaito vs showato". Judging from the style of Mei it is more likely this is non-traditional. This smith is listed as a Seki Kaji Tosho and not regarded as making Gendaito:

一則 (Kazunori) 兼松 一市(Kanematsu Kazuichi)

 

The other known smith signing Kazunori is "Fujiwara Kazunori" but unfortunately your sword is definitely not by him, below is a Fujiwara Kazunori Mei for comparison.

I would start with 1. checking to see if a particular smith is a RJT smith 2. looking for the presence of arsenal stamps (other than star stamps) and 3. looking for nie within the hamon.
