Bochavista Posted December 1, 2021 Report Posted December 1, 2021 Hello- Looking at this one on auction and currently in the airport with no resources available. Wondering if someone can assist with the smith and I can research that. Sorry for the bad pics, what I have. Thanks. Best, Chris Quote

Ray Singer Posted December 1, 2021 Report Posted December 1, 2021 Kazunori (一則), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – „Kazunori“ (一則), civilian name „Kanematsu Kazuichi“ (兼松一市), born June 10th 1894, he worked as guntō smith and died December 9th 1944, posthumous Buddhist name „Zendō Myōtoku“ (善導妙徳) 1 Quote
Bochavista Posted December 2, 2021 Author Report Posted December 2, 2021 Thank you again Mr Singer! Twice this week you’ve assisted me, I am Christoph Mikal on Facebook. Question, and maybe I need to start a new post, is there a good resource to read on determining between traditionally made and non-traditionally made blades around the war? Thanks again- Chris Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 2, 2021 Report Posted December 2, 2021 Hi Chris, there are numerous threads on just that, try searching "Gendaito vs showato". Judging from the style of Mei it is more likely this is non-traditional. This smith is listed as a Seki Kaji Tosho and not regarded as making Gendaito: 一則 (Kazunori) 兼松 一市(Kanematsu Kazuichi) The other known smith signing Kazunori is "Fujiwara Kazunori" but unfortunately your sword is definitely not by him, below is a Fujiwara Kazunori Mei for comparison. Ray Singer Posted December 2, 2021 Report Posted December 2, 2021 I would start with 1. checking to see if a particular smith is a RJT smith 2. looking for the presence of arsenal stamps (other than star stamps) and 3. looking for nie within the hamon. Quote
Bochavista Posted December 2, 2021 Author Report Posted December 2, 2021 Thank you again gentlemen. Always trying to learn, whether it sinks in, that’s another story. Best, Chris 2 Quote
