Grey Doffin Posted November 29, 2021 Report Posted November 29, 2021 Hi guys, I'm trying to make sense of what is written on the nakago of a katana that will be for sale. Below are pix of the nakago and paper. I get Mumei (Monju) and then (Kiri Mei) but after that I'm lost. Appreciate any help. Thank you, Grey Quote
kyushukairu Posted November 29, 2021 Report Posted November 29, 2021 無銘 (文珠) Mumei (Monju) (切付銘) 殺負威光 [殺 - kill/ murder, 負 - defeat/ loss/ assume responsibility, 威光 - power/ authority/ influence] (Kiritsuke mei) The power to assume responsibility for murder 1 Quote
Nobody Posted November 29, 2021 Report Posted November 29, 2021 The paper is wrong. The correct reading for the writing on the nakago is as follows. 殺身成仁 (Mi o koroshite jin o nasu) – Die to achieve virtue. 7 2 1 Quote
