vajo Posted November 20, 2021 Report Posted November 20, 2021 Restoration of a WW2 Katana... (warrelics.eu) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Edges are round, hamon is gone, hada destroyed and fittings polished. Perfect job. 1 2 Quote
francois2605 Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 This is just awful, the worst being that the offender seems very happy with the end result. Quote

Crusader22 Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 Good Lord, what a train wreck. I have seen SO many fine WWII rifles RUINED with sandpaper and cold bluing paste... I see this field is equally susceptible to this. My uncle used to say, "The surface of the Earth is covered in a roughly even layer of morons". I think he was correct. 4 1 Quote
KungFooey Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 Pay the hundred bucks, throw away the metal stick and make double your money on the tassel, guard, hilt and scabbard. 🤣 1 1 Quote

KungFooey Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Think that's bad? Check out this beauty on yahoo. Translates as 'polished'. Japanese polish sure shows the grain real well! 🤣🤣🤣 1 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Dang! Looks like someone took a belt sander to a totally rusted/corroded blade. Quote

RobCarter3 Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 It looks like it’s been subjected to electrolysis or chemical rust removers. Quote

Polaria Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 I don't have the eye to pick things out of Pawn Stars so can someone enlighten me what went wrong there? Quote
Alex A Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 He drew the sword out of the saya on its side, should be the mune, to avoid scuffing the polished blade. To be fair, i once got told off for it when i first started collecting, though it was my own sword. 1 Quote
Polaria Posted December 9 Report Posted December 9 Like I said, I don't have the eye for that sort of things. Now that you mention it, I can notice it straight away, but here I was looking at the sword, thinking if there was something wrong with it. :D Quote

Alex A Posted December 10 Report Posted December 10 This is why folks shouldn't let friends or anyone else near their collection unsupervised, its the natural sword draw for beginners. Let alone talking all over them, then comes "is it sharp", followed by running a finger down the edge. 3 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 10 Report Posted December 10 Don't forget slamming the sword back into the Saya at Mach 5. 3 Quote

We all chuckle at this, but a known member here got yelled at by a polisher for doing this to a few blades at the Indiana Token Kai section of the Chicago Show a few years ago (said person shall remain unnamed, but they know who they are). I was about to say something halfway across the table aisle before said polisher got to him. Seems like etiquette can never be taught and enforced enough! 1 2 Quote
