Dear all,

Thank you for accepting me as a member .
I have some photos of a ww2 Japanese sword handed down in family - but seems to be different shape than the usual .
ANY ADVISE would really be appreciated as no idea how old it really is . Length of sword 70 cm - handle 23 cm .
Opened the Nagamaki after many years and cannot see a signature either .
All I can find online - it tends to look edo period . Can anyone please help

Kind regards

It would be helpful to see an overall photo of the blade with the tsuka (handle) removed. At a glance this looks like an osuriage naginatanaoshi. Although the sword may have left Japan at the end of WWII, this is an older sword. Neither the blade nor mountings date to WWII.
