Gary Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 Am I correct that this Tsuba depicts clouds, snow and snow flakes? Thanks Gary Quote
b.hennick Posted November 14, 2021 Report Posted November 14, 2021 Snow flakes for sure. I am not sure if those are clouds or some corrosion... Quote
Curran Posted November 14, 2021 Report Posted November 14, 2021 Intentional texturing and snowflakes. Very frequent Ichijo ippa design. The topic of snowflakes and how the Japanese perceived them in art prior to a certain Japanese scholar studying them under a microscope is quite a more extensive discussion. I forget the man's name, but maybe someone else here will remember it. After many years in a tropical climate, I hope to actually see snow this year. Happy Holidays! 1 Quote
Brian Posted November 14, 2021 Report Posted November 14, 2021 Lovely tsuba, and all intentional. Quote
BjornLundin Posted November 14, 2021 Report Posted November 14, 2021 Nice tsuba, from aoi? A similar one was on there auction. Would have loved to have afforded it. Quote

GRC Posted November 15, 2021 Report Posted November 15, 2021 Here's a few i have on file (not in hand...) 1 1 Quote
GRC Posted November 15, 2021 Report Posted November 15, 2021 none that they're side by side, the first and last would make an outstanding daisho set... nearly identical placement of the snowflake stamps. and it looks like the flake at the top right must be purposefully miss-hit so it fades off like that on both tsuba. GRC Posted November 15, 2021 Report Posted November 15, 2021 i meant "NOW that they are side by side..." oops 1 Quote
