Bochavista Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 Hi all- Rescued this from an estate auction by me. It came with a WWII Japanese bayonet and a beat up M1902 US Army Officer Sword. I can make out what I think are kanji on the tang’s spine. The rest of the tang has significant rust issues. Looking for advice on how to move forward to improve its condition or figure out what era it is from. Thanks for any help. Best Chris from Wisco Quote
Surfson Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 Hi Chris. Looks like an Edo era wakizashi, possibly by the Kaga school, based on the tang shape only. You can take some ivory or horn and rub it to remove the active rust on the tang. Some oil on the blade is a good idea too. My guess is that it would not be worthy of a polish based on economics, so I suggest you study it and move it along. It might fetch a couple hundred bucks on eBay. Hope this helps. Quote
