jt nesbitt Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 Hey Fellas- I finally finished my sword display and study space. Thought you might enjoy taking a peek into my little world. The swords displayed on the table usually live in the the bedroom/Livingroom, but I rotate them out in the display case from time to time. In total, I have acquired 18 pieces in 3 years of active collecting, 6 of them are "mystery nihonto" the rest are papered. I think that my next step should be to get a professional appraisal of the whole lot for insurance purposes. any suggestions for how to go about this? Thanks for helping me get this far! -- JT 19 1 2 1 Quote
Katsujinken Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 For an appraisal I’d recommend working with someone like Mike Yamasaki. It needs to be a specialist. And likewise you’ll want specialized insurance (often for militaria). Mike can probably make recommendations there as well. 1 Quote

b.hennick Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 In the USA this is something called collectors insurance. I was impressed with what I learned until I learned that it was only available in the USA. Perhaps others can suggest a specific company. You don't want to pay what your regular home insurance would ask. 2 Quote
vfc Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 Absolutely Beautiful I love the car what is it reminds me of a Bugatti. Quote
jt nesbitt Posted September 14, 2021 Author Report Posted September 14, 2021 The Car is the "Magnolia Special". I built her from scratch, and she now lives on the second floor of building that I also built from scratch. Check it out, thanks for asking! Brian - Apologies for getting off topic.-- JT 11 1 2 Quote

DRDave Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Wow Cars, motorcycles, swords; talk about living the dream! Best wishes in all your endeavors, JT. There is some irony in all the NG it will take to produce enough energy to supply electric vehicles, when it could be used to power vehicles in the first place. Quote
Mark S. Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Next is the display shelves full of fine sipping bourbons, scotch, tequila, cognac, etc. What a wonderful space to spend a few hours. Quote
Michaelr Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Absolutely Beautiful, thank you for sharing MikeR Quote
jt nesbitt Posted September 15, 2021 Author Report Posted September 15, 2021 The little motorcycle hanging up in the front of the shop is a Simplex. I keep it as a wall hanger because in 1952 (when Indian went under) New Orleans was the home of the second largest motorcycle manufacturer in the US. As a motorcycle designer working in NOLA, I find it equally as inspiring as the Japanese Sword collection. The first floor is dedicated to design and construction of prototype motorcycles, and a small assembly line. Thanks for all of the compliments, and if any member finds themselves in NOLA please let me know. -- JT 2 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Amazing JT. Just can said anything more (with my open mouth) Quote
Surfson Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Wow JT, I just watched the whole segment. Very, very cool. You are clearly an unusual mixture of artist and engineer. I can see why you like Japanese swords! I got to NOLA occasionally, and will definitely look you up to check out your amazing museum. Quote

Shogun8 Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 I'm in total awe of that car - and everything! Congrats! Now all you need is a fine armour to complement the display. Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 That display shows nice taste, I like your study space a lot Quote
Tom Darling Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 Quite impressive, actually remarkable, you're one serious dude. You had Leno drooling all over your Magnolia Special. Totally a great set up for your outstanding collection. Thank you. Quote
Ooitame Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 Superb! Given your artistic gifts and eye for details I would be curious what swords are on display, if you would like to share. Quote
Brian Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 @jt nesbittYou should start a new thread in the Izakaya telling us about the process/experience building this, or just your interaction with Jay etc. Love to hear more about it. 4 Quote
Edward Mahle Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 ^^ I think Brian had a great idea I personally would love to know the story behind this. Quote
