Help to id mei on kozuka.

I believe that it is signed Tobari Tomihisa. This is not the work of the artist that worked for Goto Mitsutaka. !00% sure. It may be by his successor (I have no example), but, doubt it. Possibly gimei. John

 

I just checked Joly's Kakihan examples for both Tomihisa. The successors is peripherally similar, but, not close at all. J

I can only go by my interpretation of the references I have. I am just a student in these matters and it is just an opinion, but, the data does not match. John

Just to clarify...it is the signature that appears not genuine, not the kozuka.

False signatures are all too commonn.

To this point I would agree with the postings suggesting doubt. The condition of this kozuka tends to complicate things a bit even after playing around with the image to sharpen the details. None the less there isn't any feature (imo) that stands out to suggest mainline Goto quality or better which Tobari Tomihisa was more than capable of himself, and not sure of the quality Tobari school work might have produced. MFA (Boston) doesn't seem to have any examples, but Ginza Chosuya might have something.
