Ldesu Posted August 15, 2021 Report Posted August 15, 2021 Hi all. I bought a "genuine" type 95 NCO sword knowing nothing about them. And now... Regret it a little. It has the serial number stamped in the saya like this image (different example). Is this a legitimate location for the serial number? It also has kanji(?) stamped on the blade above the serial number. Can get photos if needed. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 15, 2021 Report Posted August 15, 2021 As we are not psychics we will require photos to be of any help!!! Quote
Ldesu Posted August 15, 2021 Author Report Posted August 15, 2021 Thanks John I don't mean to frustrate you, I was merely asking a general question, not about the specific item. A good set of photos would set the record straight on the actual item but presently it is at the antique dealer store awaiting collection. I will try to get photos in the next few days. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted August 15, 2021 Report Posted August 15, 2021 @Ldesu - Luke, the only place for a serial number on a 95 saya is on the throat, like this: There are kanji BY the serial number on the blade, usually off to the right. Can't picture one "above" the number. Quote
Ldesu Posted August 17, 2021 Author Report Posted August 17, 2021 Thanks very much Bruce, your advice is greatly appreciated. Bad news for me, unfortunately. Maybe the seller will offer a refund or exchange, given it was sold as the genuine article. Quote

Ldesu Posted August 21, 2021 Author Report Posted August 21, 2021 Sorry have been really unwell this week. Haven't even been back to the store yet. Hopefully next week though. Quote
Ldesu Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Posted August 24, 2021 Here are some photos. I will link the seller in because they don't know much about these swords either. Quote
Ldesu Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Posted August 24, 2021 More photos / better quality versions available if needed. Thanks very much for your advice. Quote
robinalexander Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Sorry to say this Luke but IMO this is a fake, and a very bad one at that. It may be that the seller believed it was genuine but I can assure you it is not. I am sure there will be other similar comments in due course and hopefully it may provide some leverage for you to recoup your money. There are a number of sites that explain how to tell a fake Type 95 but just search on this site "fake Type 95" and you will find lots of info and, with respect, examples of much better fakes than your purchase and reasons why. Dont be put off collecting...adapt and overcome! Rob 2 2 Quote
Ldesu Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Posted August 24, 2021 Thanks very much Rob. If you have the time, it will be greatly appreciated if you would PM a couple of key inconsistencies to help this. Quote

robinalexander Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 No probs...will PM you tonight 😊 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Rob is correct, very poor fake. Sorry. I still have my first fake I bought as a rookie! 1 Quote
Ldesu Posted September 4, 2021 Author Report Posted September 4, 2021 Just a quick update the seller accepted the sword back. I can lawfully demand a refund but for now have requested they try to source an alternative, but with the replacement to have its authenticity verified first. They tried to interest me in a "police sword" which will appear in a new thread soon. I need to publicly thank Rob and Bruce for their invaluable advice, as experts where I am are basically non-existent. You guys are the best! 1 1 Quote
