Spunjer Posted August 14, 2021 Report Posted August 14, 2021 Hello all, i'm new here, and i just not too long ago got interested with Nihonto. so new in fact that i don't own a piece yet. at this point i'm browsing online and came across these two pieces; a katana and a wakizashi. i showed it to a friend of mine, but he told me they're not bad pieces, but i do need to have the signature double check by one of you guys to see if it's legit or not. i would really appreciate any help that i can get. if i posted this on the wrong board, my apologies. kind regards Ron Quote
Geraint Posted August 14, 2021 Report Posted August 14, 2021 Dear Ron. Welcome! As to your questions, well, here is an example which is not papered but guaranteed, to compare with the Kunihide wakizashi, https://www.aoijapan.net/wakizashi-ohbori-izumi-kami-kunihide/ I think I'd take a gamble on this one. I agree with your friend, they are two nice swords. Both swords are in polish and in shirasaya, which is good. The only degree of certainty that you are going to get on whether the mei are genuine is papers from one of the known and respected organisations in Japan. Our opinions don't really count. If you are buying from Japan then the question is do they have papers already? If so then we can add nothing, if not then the question is why not? It would be helpful to know what the seller says about them and who the seller is. Look forward to seeing where you go with these. All the best. Quote

Spunjer Posted August 14, 2021 Author Report Posted August 14, 2021 thank you for the quick response! Geraint, those two pieces are actually stateside and are currently being auctioned. there are no papers with it, so basically it's What You See Is What You Get. i'm not sure if i'm allowed to divulge the auctioneer here? 15 minutes ago, Geraint said: Dear Ron.
