just inherited this wakizashi and i have more question than answers, the Mei is quite hard to read and was hopping some of you can shed some light on this one

To assist with the likely translation of the mei, can you give us additional shots of the rest of the blade? It would also help to have measurements.

could you rub some chalk into it

Three characters after 住 (ju) may be 宗我部 - Sogabe.

Too much, you need to wipe away the excess

This is quite hard on this blade the texture is everywhere when trying to remove I remove too much or leave too much

Keep your photos oriented vertically, and use your finger to wipe off excess.
