ROKUJURO Posted July 17, 2021 Report Posted July 17, 2021 Chris, differential hardening is not unusual in handmade Japanese cutting tools, but is probably mostly found in high-quality items. Quote
John A Stuart Posted July 17, 2021 Report Posted July 17, 2021 I've seen a few shears of this pattern. What indication is there this was made and used for fletching specifically? John Quote
ChrisW Posted July 17, 2021 Report Posted July 17, 2021 Of all the things I've bought on Amazon, the thing that surprised me most was a "Higo no Kami" pocket knife that had a different hamon on each side. I was just looking for a Japanese style folder, and I found it as being made in Japan from paper steel but forged in an apparently traditional way. For $24 or so, I couldn't beat that value! Quote
Chris Colman Posted July 17, 2021 Author Report Posted July 17, 2021 Hi John, they were made to order for me, i practice Kyudo and have been re-fletching arrows for a few years now. I kept an eye out for some during my various trips to Japan without any luck, searching websites earlier this year resulted in a company that makes them. chris 1 Quote
John A Stuart Posted July 17, 2021 Report Posted July 17, 2021 Ah! That is definitive proof I'd say. Cool. John 1 Quote
