EdWolf Posted June 29, 2021 Report Posted June 29, 2021 Picked up this large katchushi tsuba at a military fair. Normally not the place to found a tsuba. Diameter is 9.5 cm. From my novice point of view it's beautiful crafted. What do you guys think of this tsuba? Feel free to comment. Quote
Shugyosha Posted June 29, 2021 Report Posted June 29, 2021 Hi Ed, given the size and patina, my first impressions are that it’s modern, but a nice piece and, as you say, well crafted. I’m sure you’ll get some better informed comments than mine. 2 2 Quote

b.hennick Posted June 29, 2021 Report Posted June 29, 2021 I have one concern the ana (plugged) is to close to the seppa dai. 75 may be partially covered by a seppa. It looks modern to me as well. 1 Quote
Japan2112 Posted June 29, 2021 Report Posted June 29, 2021 I do like the size and the hammered (not aged) irregularity of the iron. The sukashi seems a little off in its presentation and the plug in the hiitsu ana is not fitted as well as is usually seen. I go with a modern piece, also. Quote
EdWolf Posted June 29, 2021 Author Report Posted June 29, 2021 Hi Barry and Mark, Good point about the position of the hitsu ana. You guys are probably right about the fact it's modern. Lesson learned. Regards, Ed Quote
Kanenaga Posted June 29, 2021 Report Posted June 29, 2021 When mounted on a tachi -- as its ancestors were intended to do -- won't the gorinto(?) be upside down? Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 30, 2021 Report Posted June 30, 2021 here is a pic of a published kokatchushi tsuba showing gorinto as well as wachigai. John 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 30, 2021 Report Posted June 30, 2021 I think it is made by the same people who make these modern 'replicas' https://www.jauce.com/user/dj2hmyuc you will notice the similarity of the raised rims. These are regularly released in various patterns harking back to very early designs. Quote
