Hi guys i wouild like to get your opinion on this tanto, i Know the tsuka has been reconstructed

i belive it says chounsai tsunatoshi, Bunkyu gannen san gatsu (1861) if I'm reading it right.

Hi Chris, how is life under the long white cloud? As i am far away from all of my references, all i can say is merely an uninformed opinion that the mei is not executed with confidence , without having compared it to known authentic examples. Wish i could be more help.......:dunno:

Hi Steve life been pretty normal very lucky with the whole covid thing, you guys in Hawaii?. Im leaning to gimei as well, i can not find a matching mei in my reference  books but nice to have other opinions as im no expert.

Dear Chris.

Add to the clear differences the placement of the mei, even allowing for the fact that yours is hirazukuri the mei meanders down the middle of the nakago, one would expect it to be aligned with the mune. 

So you have a nice Shinshinto tanto in attractive issaku koshirae, what's not to like?  Enjoy it for what it is, I certainly would.
