phil reid Posted May 20, 2021 Report Posted May 20, 2021 OK Gents , nco sword just in but my understanding is that the iron fuchi and tsuba should be copper? , the numbers match and at #4535 blade and scabbard are in right range. Its come out a collection atleast 40 to 60 years old and hole in handle looks drilled? Could it ne real but have had parts swapped out back in the days nco swords cost nothing and no one wanted them? 16k Posted May 20, 2021 Report Posted May 20, 2021 I think it's real with swapped out parts. Fuchi and tsuba are wrong and the absence of the screw is probably because they couldn't replace it after the swap as the thckness was different. 1 Quote

phil reid Posted May 20, 2021 Author Report Posted May 20, 2021 Couldn't find one listed with that # but don't think family would've listed , late fathers estate all all boxed away , blades all covered in Vaseline! Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted May 20, 2021 Report Posted May 20, 2021 I know @Stegel and/or @Shamsy has stated that there were some coppers with 2 tsuka screws, so that is normal. Don't recall any of them coming with iron tsuba though. One of them will confirm. Quote
Shamsy Posted May 20, 2021 Report Posted May 20, 2021 There have been a number of coppers with replaced iron tsuba and a second screw. The tsuba should be a little thicker though, as the coppers and transitional model to aluminium have a thicker tsuba than later models. There was a little said not too long ago about these coppers with later parts in the history thread for 95s. The fuchi is incorrect though (as already stated), so maybe it is a bit of a hatchet job. I have the parts to 'restore' it, but I'm not a big fan of messing with anything that has been that way so long and isn't a recent monkey job. Quote
phil reid Posted May 20, 2021 Author Report Posted May 20, 2021 Iron tsuba standard so fittings not "tight". My guess was that its been swapped out to use tsuba and fuchi on a "better" piece before these were considered collectable, as to when its anyones guess. Thanks everyone, yes ill leave as is incase its a late war put together. Cheers 1 Quote
