Golden Week is the term for the week that encompasses 4 of Japan‘s 15 national holidays. Government offices, the postal service, banks, and many businesses close during that time.

It's what you avoid when holidaying in Tokyo and want to see as much as possible. Been there, done that :)
Most things close, and the crowds are a bit crazy.
