Javi E Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 please let me know if you need a better pics. Quote
stekemest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 A picture of the nakago/tang would be nice. From what can be seen, the sword looks out ouf polish, but nice and without major flaws. Sugata doesn't really look like shinto to me. stm Quote
Javi E Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 oh yes, i forgot the pics of the sign! Quote
Grey Doffin Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Musashi no Kami Nagamichi. 1661 according to Hawleys. An oshigata on page 185 of Fujishiro's Shinto Hen isn't a very close match. Grey Quote
Stephen Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I dont think Javi is worried to much about the mei, just that it is a older blade. Quote
GregD Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I would just be curious about the tsuba,a field repair-made,late? Greg Quote
Henry Wilson Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 The fittings might not be WW2 military fittings. The tsuba and possibly the menuki could well be civilian as they do not follow the typical military patterns. I have a wakizashi with fittings that look military at a glance however the koshirae was probably made in the 1930s for a civilian who might have been involved with home defense or just fancied the militaristic style. With the koshirae above in question, the tsuba sakura and the the flowers in the tsuka look quite similar which make think some one intended a match so a battle field repair job is unlikely. Just my opinion. Quote
Brian Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I agree with Henry that the fittings look to me to be civilian made to be in the style of military ones for the war. Maybe a mix of some military fittings along with custom ones. Can't be certain, but the blade looks earlier than WW2 to me. Not sure if Shinshinto or Shinto, but it has been remounted at least once, and probably earlier and taken to war. Brian Quote
Stephen Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Javi is looking for a OS on the QT I have advised him to take a bit longer but he has the itch, we all had it in the beginning, this shot was the killer for me. I drew a line to show how far off the machi were. He wants a sword NOW.......so if its a old blade in WWII mounts its got him going. Now he'll hear from you the folly in that way of thinking. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Even further back it seems. I still have that itch, Stephen. At the end of the day if it makes him happy, well..... Patience must be cultivated. John Quote
Stephen Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 John so true, as I do have the itch also just for items like this..... http://lll.pro.tok2.com/sword/sdata-sp/lw051b.htm ...well really lesser but you know what I mean. I also told him for a first sword at around 1100 it was not that big of a mistake and it would serve the purpose. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Yes, That is a great Kunisada, for sure. John Quote
