ronin223 Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 Hello again, I just purchased this sword and need your expert opinion. Thank you for any help you can give. Rusty Quote
ronin223 Posted April 25, 2021 Author Report Posted April 25, 2021 Sorry about the reduced picture of the tsuba. I’m having a hard time reducing the MB size of the pic to make sure the signature is included with any details. Quote

ronin223 Posted April 25, 2021 Author Report Posted April 25, 2021 Maybe this angle and tint will help Quote
quoshy Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 My best guess on the signature is 備州三原住X廣作 (bishu ju mihara X hiro saku) but I think I may have a couple characters wrong. Stylistically, I think it could fit Mihara. Happy for someone to confirm/recommend something else. 1 Quote
Shugyosha Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 You just beat me to the punch Scott, I'm guessing Masahiro but I'm not 100% certain: 備州三原住正廣作. 2 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 TSUBA signature might be KANEIE. The photo is not good, so it is a guess. Quote
Jacques Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 i think also mei reads 備州三原住正廣作 Bishu Mihara ju Masahiro saku, probably the one who worked during Eisho 永正 1504/1521 38 minutes ago, ROKUJURO said: TSUBA signature might be KANEIE. The photo is not good, so it is a guess. Correct Quote
ronin223 Posted April 25, 2021 Author Report Posted April 25, 2021 Ok. Maybe a photo of a magnifying glass will be of better use. Thanks for your expertise too. I zoomed in on the bottom and hardest portion of the signature only. Quote
Rivkin Posted April 25, 2021 Report Posted April 25, 2021 Late Muromachi Mihara. I would argue for 1530-1570 period, though in the latter portion larger kissaki is more common, so probably 1530. Somewhat earlier shinogi zukuri waki would tend to be somewhat less chubby and more slender, Quote
ronin223 Posted April 26, 2021 Author Report Posted April 26, 2021 Thanks for all the great information. I’m glad I bought it now. Quote
