Damn. I was kinda hoping I wouldn't win it as I can't afford it..but now that I didn't..I am really miserable about it. Outsniped at the end. Did it go to a member? (So I can change your ranking to something nasty )

I've only ever seen one socket naginata (naginata no saki) like this..in Japan at a dealer in November. He had just picked it up and was taking it with plenty of other swords to the dealer auctions. I do wonder if it was the same one that made it to the USA 2 months later.

Fell in love with it then, something about the feel and the shape. You don't see too many socket naginata, although yari are out there.

Hmm....realy hope it went to some decent collector and not a dealer.

Not I -- although I watched it for 4 days and thought well - bid 1500 or 2 grand and 1500 didn't do it !

I put in several bids on it, but also got sniped

I watched with great interest but resisted the temptation to bid.

I would have liked the little nagamaki style tanto more as a piece to go with my nagamaki waki but at $3500 it was wayyyy out of my league.

Ill keep looking around.
