A question of tassels

G'day all and Happy New Year,

A while back I was able to trade a fairly standard Gunto for my collection, I believe it is signed Jima Kane Nori. The Tassel that is attached is of leather which I have not seen before, and I am unable to find a reference to.

 

Is there someone out there that may be in a position to provide some infomation for me.

If I am correct (and I am not sure at all) I think this is the tassel that went with the NCO Shin Gunto.

Edit to add: here is the official NCO tassel. Similar, but not the same. Yours was either modified or field made by the soldier I think. I lean towards the latter explanation.

Ta for the prompt reply. I must admit that on first sighting I couldn't believe that the tassel belonged to an Officers Gunto as it has a fairly average appearance.
