Oliver J Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 Hello Misters, I recently acquired a Japanese Kabuto and was wondering if anyone could translate the mei for me. There are two signatures, maybe a date...? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Best regards, Oliver Quote
uwe Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 Hello Oliver, the mei reads "明珎紀宗周作" (Myôchin Ki Munechika saku. The other reading of the name is Munekane) The nengo is "嘉永セ年甲寅二月日" (A day in February Kaei 7 = 1854, "甲寅" is the zodiac date = Kinoe Tora) Something more about this smith..... Quote
Oliver J Posted April 14, 2021 Author Report Posted April 14, 2021 Hello Sir Uwe, It’s very precious, thank you very much, I didn’t expect so much. A little disappointed, I imagined a feudal kabuto, we are at the end of the Edo period so no more battles ... Good day and good luck! Best regards, Oliver Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 14, 2021 Report Posted April 14, 2021 Oliver, there were still plenty of battles to come, at that time! 1 Quote
uwe Posted April 14, 2021 Report Posted April 14, 2021 Indeed! For example the “戊辰戦争” (Boshin sensō / Boshin war) or the “西南戦争” (Seinan sensō / Satsuma rebellion)...to name only two! 1 Quote
Oliver J Posted April 14, 2021 Author Report Posted April 14, 2021 Hello, Is that so? It's nice to imagine that this Kabuto fought in a battle. So that's good news! Thank you very much. Oliver Quote
Marc T Posted April 19, 2021 Report Posted April 19, 2021 Hello Oliver, You have an interesting helmet here. Did you find it in Europe?. Would it be possible to get more pictures of the sides and top of the helmet please? Quote
