Gentlemen;

Still wrestling with my Manchuria question,can anyone please translate into english the following translated kanji from the nakago for me,and oblige;-

sho-wa-kanoto-mi-haru (on one side) and ko-a-i-sshin-man-tetsu-saku-kore on the other.

I am reasonably sure of the translation but not positive.

Henry,

I am sure that must be 幸巳 Kanoto Mi (haru)

http://www.geocities.com/alchemyst/kanji/zodiac.htm and http://www.jssus.org/nkp/kanshi.html will explain the dating system.

So this would then be Spring 1941.

The Koa Isshin Mantetsu saku of course is explained on http://www.geocities.com/alchemyst/koa.htm

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Brian

PS - The only thing that confuses me too, is that according to Dr Stein, Showa Kanoto Mi haru is 1941, but according to Rich's page, Showa Kanoto Mi is the 18th year of Showa, which to me says 1926+18-1 = 1943 :?:

I did actually check it just after posting, went to take a shower and came back to correct the post. But you beat me to it :D

I can see now that the Zodiac system in the Showa era starts in 1924 (+18-1) = 1941 due to the 60 year cycle.

The kanji for Kanoto is wrong, and there are the same mistakes on both referred sites.

The correct kanji is , not .

Just when I thought "damn, am I good or what, *I* got it right", Koichi told me in a PM that I reversed in the table of "ETO 干支" the positions of 兄 and 弟 - "e" is 兄, and "to" is 弟. Bummer! :oops: I'll send the corrected article to Brian asap!

New article uploaded and updated. I hope everyone has had a look, it's very good info. Thanks Guido.

Sorry to say but the headings of the table still have typos in English explanations.

兄 = elder brother

弟 = younger brother

Still beats me why I gave the correct explanation in the intro of the article, and then messed up the chart. :roll: Anyhow, a corrected version with some additional info and easier to use chart is on its way to Brian for uploading. I also deleted the list of years, and will include it in a Nengô chart soon to be added to the article section.

Thanks again to Koichi-san for pointing out my mistakes; I hope no one lost any sleep - or, worse, money! - over my flawed article! ;) :lol:
