PNSSHOGUN Posted March 21, 2021 Report Posted March 21, 2021 This is on a Generals grade parade sabre, I would appreciate some help translating it: Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 21, 2021 Author Report Posted March 21, 2021 Thanks Steve, unusual that there are two names there. I wonder if the inscription is related to one of these gentlemen gifting the sword to the other, or both of them gifting it to another General, as was common in all world armies at the time. Count Abe may be this man: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobuyuki_Abe Marquis Asano may be this gentleman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asano_Nagakoto Quote

Count Abe may be this man: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobuyuki_Abe Marquis Asano may be this gentleman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asano_Nagakoto That Abe Nobuyuki did not have the title of Count. I found that Marquis Asano Nagakoto's younger brother was adapted into Abe family and became Count Abe Masatake. Ref. 阿部正桓 - Wikipedia 3 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 21, 2021 Author Report Posted March 21, 2021 Thank you, that must be him. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 21, 2021 Author Report Posted March 21, 2021 So would this inscription be taken as Marquis Asano gifting the sword to Count Abe? I have seen inscriptions like this on General grade parade sabres but never paid them much attention unless it was an "Imperial Gift" or something of that nature. Quote
